Shannon Briggs

Registered Speech Language Pathologist

Shannon Briggs received her Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of British Columbia and is registered with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC) and she is a member of Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC). Shannon is on the Registry of Autism Service Providers (RASP) and is a Clinical Educator for SLP practicum students. 

Shannon has extensive experience working with children who have a range of speech, language, and social communication delays and disorders. She also offers assessments for families seeking speech-language pathology services as part of a thorough autism evaluation.

Shannon has received training in the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM), an early intervention approach for young children with autism. She is certified in Hanen’s program “More Than Words”, a parent-implemented early intervention program for children with autism and social communication difficulties and another Hanen program, “It Takes Two To Talk”, a program for parents of young children who have language delays. She is also a certified provider for PEERS® (The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills), an evidence-based approach for teenagers with autism and other social communication challenges. Additionally, Shannon is a certified Lidcombe provider, a behavioural treatment for children who stutter who are younger than 6 years. Shannon is also a certified PROMPT provider (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) which is an approach for motor speech disorder such as Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Shannon has also completed courses and professional development in play-based therapy, executive functioning, ADHD and AAC.

Shannon uses a play-based, child-led therapy approach and loves working alongside parents and their team to work towards functional outcomes for children of all ages.

In her free time, Shannon hosts The SLP Corner Podcast, a trusted resource for everything related to speech-language pathology, from grad school advice and private practice tips to education surrounding emotional literacy. She also leads a monthly SLP book club that highlights SLP-focused literature and she runs a mentorship program to guide SLP students and early-career professionals in the field of Speech-Language Pathology.
